Day 8, New Years morning. He wakes up I change his diaper and all is well. About an hour and a half later we're going to go out and I have to change him again. He has spots all over his inner thighs and his bottom torso. Not good. So I take him into the doctor again and he says it's not an allergic reaction. It's called an amoxicillian rash (there's a technical name I don't remember) and that it will get worse before it gets better, but it's not a big deal. When we research it on the web it says there is nothing you can do for it, it doesn't itch, there's no fever and it's not a big deal. Just looks really bad. By that night he is miserable. Walking funny, holding his side, rubbing behind his ear and behind his head. We try calamine lotion and whatever we can. This is supposed to be no big deal.
Dan sleeps in his room, because he's cute and protective like that when kids are sick and I have to take care of the baby. 2:00 a.m. Jonah starts throwing up. This is not "no big deal." So Dan and my dad (who was visiting us) take Jonah into the emergency room. He has these huge red spots everywhere, even inside his mouth. He has a temperature and is itching like crazy. Yeah right this is not an allergic reaction. They put him on a steroid, an anti-histamine and a anti-nausea pill, because the rash would be on the inside of his stomach and that is what is making him throw-up. Poor guy. For 5 days he was miserable, scratching and just miserable. Thankfully he is all better now, but this is what he looked like. The spots would start out in one place and then move to other parts of his body. And the pictures do not do it justice. It was a lot brighter red than this. Poor little guy. No more amoxicillian for him.

Wow! I have two kids allergic to amoxicillan. Our Dr. had us stop giving it as soon as the rash showed up and give benedryl. I think I'm really glad!!
The rash didn't appear until day 7 and we stopped taking it right away. The regular dr. thought it was this benign rash so he thought there wasn't anything to help.
How awful! Poor baby! I've had both my boys get allergic reactions, but never to medicine. I'm glad he's okay!
Poor little guy. That looks awful! Weird that it took 7 days before he reacted.
